All Shades of Seating for Friday

Happy Friday! Here's a peek at a design event to wrap up the week....

This was a sneak peek for IDSwest coming up in September. It took at place at the beautiful Inform Contract Space in Vancouver. Love that space. I could live in it. There was no shortage of seating.

A tour of the BENSEN factory. Incredible furniture designed by Niels Bendtsen. Amazing place. If you get a chance to visit this place, do. I'm pining for a certain sofa bed now.

Left: Socks + Furniture: An Exploration into the Banal. By Greg Papove
Right: Profile chair and lamp by Conrad Brown and Calen Knauf
Click here for more info on Future Masters vol 3.
(I also see a future baby in the pic on the right. Sorry, couldn't help it.)

All of these can be found at Inform Contract Space.

That's it for this week. Have a great weekend!

A Very Happy Office for Friday

It's been a busy week, and I'm looking forward to the weekend! What do you have planned for the weekend?

I thought I'd wrap up the week with the lovely Shereen de Rousseau's home office, designed by Nancy Riesco.  I shot it for Style At Home magazine's May issue. I'm sure she never has a bad day in this perky space...if she does, she can just curl up on that cute day bed.

Have a fantastic weekend! Back soon.

Weekend Observations

Wow, it's a very windy start to the week, here in Vancouver. Yikes. Did you all have a good weekend? Hope so!

Here's a bit of what I got up to (includes a little work)....

What did you get up to this weekend? Have a lovely Monday!

Attic Office for Friday

Thought I'd wrap up the week with a peek inside a house that I shot, the owners of which happen to be architects. My favourite room was their office/lounge-around room/sometimes playroom. So uncluttered, simple and beautiful with lovely light. I absolutely love the floor!

I think I need to get Neema and Tim over here to help me organize a little bit better. Correction. Organize full stop.

Have a great weekend! Got any plans?

City Living in Gastown

How was your weekend? If you're in Vancouver, did you enjoy the warm sunshine? Ahh.

Thought I'd share another lovely home with you, to start off the week. I shot this huge space for Style At Home, for the current issue. Designed by architect Omer Arbel, it's filled with light and all kinds of beautiful details. Here's a peek...

The bedroom overlooks one of my favourite spots in Vancouver - Blood Alley. Intriguing name, isn't it?

Great use of an antique cabinet. Perfect in the master bathroom.

The kitchen can open up to this indoor/outdoor patio.

The "living" wall is filled with strawberry plants.

Think you could live in a space like this? I think I could. For the whole story, check out the March issue of Style At Home.

Have a great day!

Back soon,
Janis

A D.I.Y. Family for Friday

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you had a great week.

I thought I'd share some pics from a story I shot for Anthology magazine (issue 6). Heather, along with homeowner Mike, did the styling. It was one of the nicest shoots ever. Mike, Ann and their kids, Kaya and Zane, were all so easy to work with.

The "life" lightbox was inspired by the same image, as a poster, from the old 70's show "Three's Company". I love that!

Mike's studio in the back yard. He made the cushions, by the way. Crafty guy.

Kaya and her mom, Ann, made the sweet little mobile.

This family is all shades of talented. They basically built their home, and have a great eye for putting together antiques, family heirlooms, and their own handmade creations. For the full story (and more pics), check out the new issue of Anthology (the entire issue is fantastic!).

A little wood, concrete and metal

Happy hump day! Wednesdays are turning out to be my fun days. I had another great morning with Stephanie and Joanna, from The Cross, shooting a bunch of their projects. I just wanted to share a snippet of Joanna's apartment with you....

Joanna, shot at the Cross.

Love her mix of concrete, wood, and metal. Her condo is pretty tiny (600 sf ft), but she manages to make it feel roomy. A great space to hang out in. She's working on a few bits, so I'm looking forward to sharing more with you soon. If you need design services, you can check out some of Joanna's work here.

That's it for today. Back soon!

City Living

Have you had a good week so far? Hope so!

I shot a another city condo today, this time for Mark Pritchard - a very talented interior designer. I always marvel at the clever ways he works in storage space into condos. He's a magic man. Here are a few pics from the shoot. Wish I could show them all, but I can't...just yet. ;) Love the black side table, above. You can find it at Provide.

Loved the cushions, from Provide. A fantastic shop here in Vancouver.

My dream dining table. Love the pops of colour in the trio of paintings.

Perfectly organized kitchen, with pull out "counters" hidden amongst the cupboards.

The bedroom was so calming. Loved the dark wood panelled "wall" with the glow of light framing it.

I actually shot Mark's home, that he shares with his husband Daryl, a few years ago for Style At Home. You can check it out here

Have a good day! Back soon.

Sunday Observations (and a couple from Saturday!)

How was your weekend? Hope you had a fun one! I spent a lot of time at the idsWest show, so thought I'd share some of it with you. It's a pretty long list of "observations", but it was a pretty great show, so it was hard to narrow down!

Must have a fatboy, one of these days. So comfortable!

The fantastic team, Artsy!Dartsy! put together an amazing group of young designers. Pictured top left is ceramic art by Sarah Peloquin-Ladany, bottom left is nuum planter by Lavinia Chu

Inform Interiors is a beautiful modern furniture store located in the Gastown area of Vancouver. Loved those chairs (top left).

The Tom Dixon Pub. I think I need those copper pendant lights. They give off the most flattering light ;)

A very cute scene at the Montauk display.

Rubbish Rehab, from Seattle. This husband and wife team are pretty fantastic upholsterers. Wish I met them before a certain chair re-do. If you have a minute, check out their shop! I have my eye on a few of the mid-century style chairs. Love.

This is Barbara Hulanicki, of Biba fame. I've had a bit of an obsession with her for years, so there was no way I was going to miss her at the idsWest show. If you need a refresher on this incredibly talented and creative woman, click here. You will love her too ;)

Last but not least, a Saturday observation...

It was so nice to be asked to shoot the Design Sponge event last night. Great to meet Grace Bonney and Amy Azzarito. Always fun to hang out with Jan of Poppytalk and Denise Lui of Artsy!Dartsy! too.

That's it for Sunday! Back soon.
