Not quite Rockefeller, but we did have Elvis

Elvis Costello that is. Elvis and his wife, Diana Krall, were the special guests at the Amacon Christmas tree lighting celebration at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Unfortunately, their mission was only to push the big red button, to switch on the lights, not to do a festive duet. In just it's 3rd year, it doesn't quite have the panache, or the countless superstars, that Rockefeller has, but it's a start.

Now, back to Elvis. I adore Elvis Costello, and have grown to be o.k with his wife, Nanaimo BC native, Diana Krall. She did look pretty last night. I was only about 12 feet away from them, so I took lots of pics. Please allow me to show you a number of them!

To Mise of Pretty Far West: Since I was in a sparkly mood after the tree lighting (and Elvis), I decided to go by a couple of the houses, from my last post, to show you what they look like all lit up. Enjoy! I think I prefer them in the light of day, all exposed and self conscious.

oh to live back in the city and go to these things. I miss out on this stuff. sigh.
I like the places better at night - they seem more magical instead of insane.

Elvis Costello! Oh you lucky thing! He was my top musical hero all through my teenage years and twenties, and I still sing his songs to myself in the shower. All together now, "..and you look so pretty in your new lace sleeves..." I was quite a fan of his first wife as well, but haven't really bought into the current musical direction of Elvis & Diana.

And those lit-up festive gardens look great - it's like having a come-ye-all, as no one with gardens like that would turn away a stranger in search of a mince pie.

Diana Krall does look pretty! Lucky you for being so close! I agree, I like the houses in the day better. I kinda like to see all the craziness. :-)

Mise, Ioved Cait O'Riordan (sp?) too! I've seen Elvis play several times - outstanding voice to this day.
Lori, I'm happy you like the craziness in the day shots!

I'm a big fan of the crazy Christmas lawn decorations. Some of our neighbors here on the island have some wacky displays. One couple also blasts Christmas music out onto the lawn. It's kind of sweet if you're just passing by, but I can't imagine living next door to it!

Your photos are great. I especially love the teddy bear filling in for the third king.

Oh, and I love Elvis. I was a big Elvis girl in the 80's. Not as a big a fan of the current stuff, but he'll always be cool in my heart.

Aw, Diana is beautiful! So is that tree. I love twinkly little lights for the holidays. Those illuminated plastic figures remind me of a house down here that sets up a row of massive holiday balloon figures every year. Some people have such a sense of holiday humor, don't they?
