An End of Summer Ritual

Hope you're all enjoying the weekend....and a long one at that, if you're in Canada or the U.S.!

Do you have an end of summer ritual? One of mine is hitting up the Pacific National Exhibition (P.N.E.), with nieces and nephews. Every year it's the same: Eat mini donuts, pergogies, and other fatty foods, then hit up the rides, where I promptly get motion sick and have to sit out the rest the "ride" portion of the ritual. Ahh, tradition.

Back tomorrow with a pretty tasty treat for Baked On Monday!

No rituals here, we just tried to stuff a lot into that last week before school began. Your carnival photos are great fun!

Great pics! I used to love the occasional visits to the CNE in Toronto eating Tiny Toms mini donuts too!
No real ritual nowadays other than always picking up the new fall fashion mags to scope out what's new. :)

Ah, such great nostalgic photos! I especially love that last one. Your description sounds exactly like what I do at carnivals with my nieces and nephews. I always seem to run from one ride to the next, losing all self control until I suddenly, mid-swirl or mid-flip or mid-spin realize that I am wildly sick. Then there's the grim holding on tight and wishing I could teleport myself off this spinning piece of metal. Inevitably, that's the one time that the guy running the ride is letting us go for a few extra turns!

I haven't been the to PNE in ages! My favourite was always playing whack-a-mole with my dad and uncle.

My end of summer/beginning of school tradition is watching Gilmore Girls season 1.

That's the way with tradition - even the bits that are not so good are given cachet by being long-established. And what a gorgeous palette of colours.

how you make the pne look like imagery right out of a 50's classic is beyond me. beautiful.
is the rain keeping you at home today? if i were you i'd make a mad food dash, full of all the classics, come home to a cozy sofa, stuff my face, and watch old movies...

Love those pics!!

The PNE sounds like the CNE here in Canada, which we usually hit up during the labour day weekend...or we go to a cottage, which we did this weekend...even though the weather was pretty crappy!

These are awesome pics Janis! Are they from the PNE? The PNE never looked so beautiful. I actually worked there one summer when I was younger. It was actually quite fun!

Good memories, thanks for sharing!!

xoxo Hope you're having an awesome week!

Sh*t, I missed the PNE this year - i miss quite a few things from the PNE of yore (sp?)- recall the BC pavillion map of BC? that was always a huge thing for me. And, the Foods building - great - i could be a tubby ten year old and get food samples all day! There is still the guy selling the "dicer, slicer, mincer..."- thank god! haha
Yes, always a good time. Superdogs rule !!

Oh and also want to comment that the 70's- 80's carnies ruled! At the PNE, there was always some "ride technician" guy who looked like he was just out on probation, smoking a butt, making sure we were buckled in and what not. He for sure was high, i am sure of it. And, this is the song that reminds me of me and my sisters being on rides: "Urgent" by Foreigner. Really great memories - FUN!!
